After 36 days, 817 kilometres and countless good and bad albergues / hostels / pensión, tomorrow I will arrive at Santiago de Compostela.
I have many mixed feelings about my Camino. I’ve spoken to so many new pilgrim friends who are super keen to start their next Camino and why my experience was so different.
I’ve appreciated my time here in the North of Spain and I know I’ve made some great friends whom I look forward to seeing again, but I don’t think I will ever start another long walk like this – my body is definitely (and completely) not up to something this strenous.
The last week has gone by in a blur. I picked up a bug which has given me a gross headcold (and knocked me out for half a day). I’m still wheezy and coughing, but with only 20kms to go, I will gladly carry my snotty tissues into the cathedral of Santiago with pride.
The stand-out places from the last week are : Luarca, Sobrado, Vilalba and Soto de Luiña.

Vilalba was awesome. The photo above is pretty messy, but I think it sums up the day beautifully. We all sat outside the albergue in the sunshine on the extremely narrow sidewalk. We ate fresh cheese (a pilgrim bought it from a nearby farm), drank beer and listened to music. It was the best.
I am so excited, anxious, happy, sad and exhausted all in one.
Buenas Noches,
